Student Health Insurance Changes

Updated: Sep 30, 2020

Health insurance is an essential service for many students on campus, with one option being the U-M Domestic Student Health Insurance for coverage throughout the academic year. However, the University has recently changed their health care coverage from Aetna to Blue Care Network (BCN). If you had purchased the Aetna U-M Domestic Student Health Insurance for the 2018-19 school year, your insurance coverage ended on August 23, 2019.

Fortunately, if you enroll in the University’s new insurance plan through Blue Care Network by September 30, 2019, your student insurance coverage will retroactively apply back to August 24, 2019. We hope that you will help continue to spread the word to your peers.

If you do not enroll in the new coverage by September 30, your next opportunity to enroll for the U-M Domestic Student Health Insurance plan will be mid-December for coverage that begins on January 1, 2020.

For information about the 2019-2020 BCN plan or to enroll in the plan, see the Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan webpage at https://uhs.umich.edu/dship. If you have questions regarding your coverage, please contact the appropriate offices:
